Weekly Wrap Up

Welcome to my first weekly wrap up! I thought it would be fun to post on the weekends a little review of my week, what I read, and put in some personal stuff. The rest of my posts are geared towards gothic horror, so this will be an opportunity to talk about other books I’ve read and anything else that is “off topic.”

This week, I finished the book The Maidens by Alex Michaelides. It was pretty good, not quite what I was expecting. There was some good tension but I didn’t feel that it really had that heart-pounding thriller-ness that I what was hoping for. The dark academia of it was the initial draw for me, but I was hoping it would lean into it a bit more. I recently re-read The Secret History by Donna Tartt, so that might have colored my view of it. The Secret History is such a fantastic book and a true dark academia original. I highly recommend it to anyone into that aesthetic.

This summer, I’m taking classes towards my Master’s in Library and Information Science. I’m taking four class this summer and it has been A LOT! Our semester is wrapping up later this week, so I’ve been busy with homework and final projects. I will have two semesters left of the program after this summer. I’m so excited to get through the program and graduate! But in the short term, I’m just trying to get through this week and my final projects.

My other project for the weekend is setting up my August bullet journal. Does anyone use the bullet journal system? I’m kind of hit or miss on it with some months being very busy with it and others that I just do the basics. I’m incorporating a printed planner for part of this month to take some of the work off. I’m hoping it helps me stay organized to wrap up my classes and also help with mental health as I do some journaling and mood tracking.

So that’s what I’ve been up to this week! Should I do a book review of The Maidens? It’s a tad outside my scope, but it could be fun to unpack some of it here. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
